Dear Friends and Collectors,
It’s good to be back in Laguna working in the studio, preparing for an important artist call with a series of contemporary bouquets in dry pastel. The theme is Nature Morte – nature will die if we don’t do something dramatic to combat climate change. As always, there’s a lot going on with my art. Here’s a sampling:
Laguna Art Museum hosts an important citywide event called “Art and Nature” at the museum, and five local galleries. It’s an ambitious and cultural environmental event that artistically features our beautiful seaside village of Laguna Beach. I’m in the exhibition at Gallery Q, the Laguna Beach Community and SusieQ Center through December 14.
The 4x4x15 exhibition at John Wayne Airport Vi Smith Concourse Gallery continues with two large format paintings on the theme of dreams: where do they come from and what are they made of? It’s very fun when people reach out to say, “I saw your paintings at the airport.” I’m gratified my artwork is there to infuse some contemplative time during the stresses of travel for hundreds of thousands of travelers. If you have the opportunity to stretch your legs coming or going from a flight at John Wayne, my pieces are in both Terminal A and Terminal C. This show is up until March 2023.
My annual pastel art workshop at the Annenberg Foundation property at Sunnylands in the Palm Springs desert area is on February 11, 2023. Tickets go on sale on their site on November 15 and this event is always sold out. Sunnylands is an exquisite garden and winter is the perfect time to visit. Join me in the desert for a brief artistic retreat.
The Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) is an organization I’m associated with. I’m in the LPAPA Squared juried show (canvases are 8”x8”…a fun format for me), in person at the LAPAP Art Gallery, 414 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach from December 1-January 2 and online November 28-January 2.
I was invited to participate for the third year in the Laguna Art Museum California Cool Auction beginning February 20, 2023. This is the Laguna Art Museum’s most important fundraiser, and I am honored to be among the 150 artists from all over California to participate. This is both an online auction on the Artsy platform and in-person auction at the museum on March 4. More information to come.
Finally, mark your calendar for my studio holiday open house December 3-4 from 11-4. This is the 26th Annual Holiday exhibition and is a great opportunity to meet many Laguna professional artists in their studios and purchase art for gifts at studio prices. The Laguna Canyon Artists Studios located at 3251 Laguna Canyon Road, between Big Bend and the Dog Park. There is ample parking onsite.
Yours in Art,
Gianne
