September 2023

Dear Friends,

Fall is the moment when life resets and starts to accelerate. I’m excited to share just a little about what’s going on in my art world.

I was recently admitted into an artist collective called The Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana, California. “OCCCA is a space that invites artists to think about their practice as research and to develop ideas, exhibitions and projects. It is a space conducive to self-organized initiatives and the sharing of artistic resources.” I am in a group show curated by Jeffrey Frisch that runs September 2-30 in a very cool space in Santa Ana. The exhibition is called Extreme Moderation and I’m showing a pastel piece I did in 2004 in the Loire Valley: Walking Towards the Forest.

If you are in Laguna Beach this fall, please visit the Gallery at the Susi Q for an exhibition October 18-December 13 focused on Art & Nature. I’ve got a piece in the exhibition and this is one of my favorite venues to show work in my home town.

I visited Hawai’i when I was just a teenager with my grandmother and cousin and was awed by these gorgeous islands, brimming with culture. The Lahaina fires in Maui were devastating and felt very personal. To benefit the Lahaina Maui fire victims, I donated a pastel piece, Marigolds in a Chinese Vase. Here is the link where you can sign up to bid. Please be generous to help the victims of this terrible fire as they get back on their feet to rebuild their island home.

I’m excited to be traveling to Northern California in October to paint in residency the small but mighty Ruth Bancroft Garden. I’ve had my eye on this perfect garden for many years and am thrilled to be invited to paint there for two weeks. I will be working on my favorite subject of succulents and cactus. My next newsletter will be devoted to this residency. If you are in Walnut Creek near Berkeley, please consider attending my workshop and exhibition Wednesday, October 18. Sign up here.

Save the Date! The annual Holiday Open House at the Laguna Art Studios is December 2-3 where I will be showing paintings and drawings from my Ruth Bancroft residency. This is always a fun event and an opportunity see and interact with multiple artists in their studios in Laguna Canyon. My profile page for Laguna Canyon Art Studios is here.

My agent Gilles de Labriffe has been selling many of my larger paintings in Saint Tropez. Below are two of the recent sales. I’ve updated my website to show some of my favorite available paintings for purchase; see them here on my website’s homepage.

I have several major projects scheduled in 2024. I will be Artist in Residence on the Island of Ischia, Italy for the month of June, painting in La Mortella Garden, one of my favorite gardens, where I’ve had the opportunity to paint for two seasons (Fall 2015 and Spring 2017.) You can see some of these paintings, many which are sold, at. In this June 2024 residency, I will be painting the summer season.

I will be showing framed works on paper in May and June 2024 at the St. John’s English Lending Library in the city of Menton, France.

And finally, I will present a solo show in June and July at the renowned vineyard and event center in Provence, le Chateau de L’Aumérade.

Bon Rentrée, until October. Please follow me on Insta to see continual updates.

Yours in art,
Gianne
